Sun & Moon

During my research for my COP, I became familiar with Sun & Moon because they focus on character based animation, which is something that was very relevant to me at the time. After getting in touch with them for primary research, I found myself becoming more and more interested in what they do!

As a studio, they work in both 2D  and 3D, which immediately was very beneficial, because when I gained feedback from them for my COP, there wasn't any bias to one medium over the other. Since this is a studio that is centred around telling stories through world and characters, this was immediately something that I loved the sound of and wanted to know more. They have many well know clients, including the BBC, E4 and Aardman. I think this is partially due to the fact that as a studio, they are not set on using one form of of animation over a another, therefore allowing them to produce work for a wider range of clients.

I found myself feeling inspired so many different examples of their work, regardless of weather they were in 2D or 3D.

I think this studio is so successful, because the only running theme that goes through their work appears to be that they have a love for character and stories. There is such a huge range of animation styles and designs, which I believe is a huge benefit for any studio or practitioner to have.

I found my own work being influenced after researching this studio, because I felt reassured that it was okay for me to focus on 2D. It also encouraged me to keep drawing and trying out new designs, because there was such a diverse mix of work on their website, and it was all so influential.
