BIRDZ - Emilien Davaud

Whilst at MAF, I got to see al lot of really inspiring animations. A lot of these were in the short films section, and one of them was "BIRDZ" by Emilien Davaud. This animation was around 11 minuets longs and although it was somewhat strange, this is what made it so memorable and inspiring for me.

The character design for this film was very different to anything I had ever sen before. The people in it were designed to look and behave like birds, but to still be human. There was something really unsettling about the people in this film. I also really liked the aesthetic of this animation, because although it was CGI, it looked quite traditional. I thought the character design was executed really well, because it was very clear that each family was a representation of a different bird, but they still looked human enough.

This animation encouraged me to want to create something more on the strange side for my final film.
