Loic Burkhardt talked about his involvement with this film & how the use of sound impacted the delivery of the story. Different clips of the film were presented, first with out sound and then with sound, and it was clear how much of a difference this made! Even changes as simple as hearing rain outside in comparison to hearing it from inside a car, made a huge difference.
In terms of the visual development of this animation, I thought the style of it was great. It looked almost old fashioned, but it worked really well, particularly with panning shots of the city. I think this was very much down to the use of colours, the colour palettes were varied, but they weren't overly bright, which meant that it didn't seem overpowering.
Seeing this animation & being able to get an insight to it's production, influenced the way in which I went about my final film. I think it made me extra wary of not using colour palettes that were too mixed or too intense, because I think this is mistake that can easily happen, and Phantom Boy proved that less can be more. This seminar also made me very aware of sound, and the how much of an impact it can have, and that it can mean the difference between a well delivered, or a poorly delivered story.
This seminar was also very helpful with my COP research, because it reinforced the fact that visual design can only go so far when it comes to delivering a story, and that other aspects such as sound and script are just as important.
