The Lifting Tower Project - New Group

After getting together with the rest of the illustrators & graphic designers, it seemed more appropriate to have a mix of professions in each group. Therefore, James and I separated from Lauren & Emma and instead joined with a graphic designer names charlie & an illustrator named Tom. This immediately sparked more ideas because Charlie and tom had some of their own ideas too.

We ended up scrapping the original ideas from our previous group however we did take the idea of the ball of light moving through trees and altered it. It instead became a christmas candy worm! Since we all had our ideas, we discussed them all at length and then decided we would all take charge of our own animation. We were also prepared to offer ay technical help needed to the other two, however Tom seemed pretty familiar with After Effects, so it was just a matter of making sure Charlie was comfortable with what he was doing.

In the end, since animating in After Effects is quite fast, combined with the request that these animations being quite simple, Charlie passed on the assets to James who then animated them.

My Contribution

For my section of the animation, I was to animate a candy worm moving through trees and lighting them up one by one! Something that needed to be considered when designing the layout was that there is a window in the lifting tower that is hollow. So it seemed logical to incorporate this.

Above is the concept work I created for my animation. Although the worm would only be visible on screen for a number of seconds, I wanted to establish how it would look when in motion. For the animation of the worm alone, I used photoshop instead of after effects, because it seemed more appropriate to draw it frame by frame.
