Design Work - The Lifting Tower Project

After being given this brief, I grouped together with three others on the course, Lauren, James and Emma. It seemed working collaboratively was the more logical option, especially since it meant there were a lot more ideas being generated!

For this brief we needed to create three 1 minuet long ideas, that can be projected onto the lifting tower in Leeds. The theme of which, needed to be based on the theme of christmas in Leeds, however we needed to actively stay away from keeping it too character based, or too cheesy.

After throwing out some different ideas, I created a mind-map which we could then pass on to Lauren who couldn't join us on that day. Later in the week we all came together again and settled on three final ideas.

Splitting The Design Work

We decided that the concept drawings would be split equally amongst James, Lauren and Emma. That way, they only needed to focus on producing drawings for one animation each. That left the storyboarding to me! I wasn't complaining, I really enjoy this process.

The drawings given to me by the rest of the group were super helpful, and really made my storyboarding process faster.

After coming together to create the basic thumbnails for the storyboards, I was then able to crack on and create the clearer versions. These storyboards needed to be clear enough to convey the ideas, however we decided it was best to go colourless for now, since there was a restriction on the colour palette. We were pretty sure on the chosen colours, however at this point we felt it best to leave them and develop it further if our idea was to get chosen.

This whole development process was really enjoyable, especially because I hadn't yet worked collaboratively with a group that big. Also, being able to just sit together and bounce ideas back and forth was great, especially since we were quite restricted on what we could produce.
