Why you chose to study on this programme?
Animation seemed like the perfect course for me because I love the idea of bringing things to life and making them move. I want to learn how to do this to the best of my ability, so that in the future I can end up working in the film industry. Leeds College of Art was the perfect place for me because of my love for the city and how quickly I began to feel comfortable when visiting the college on the open day.
What do you want to learn during your time on the programme?
I want to learn everything I possibly can, I am eager to gain experience in all areas of animation available at the college. I am currently particularly interested in Stop Motion and Claymation because I am inspired by a lot of films which use this technique such as, The Corpse Bride, Wallis and Grommit, Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline. However I want to have a go at everything, because for all I know I could become even more interested in another type of animation along the way!
What skills do you think are your strengths?
At the moment i believe my biggest strength is my ability to draw and design characters. This is something which I do a lot of in my spare time and really enjoy. I am also good at time management and planning out my work, so I can use this to my advantage.
What things that you want to improve?
I need spend more time also thinking about actual story lines and scripts, so that I have something more to work from instead of just characters on their own! I want to improve my understanding of animation as a whole and broaden my understanding and knowledge when it comes to other famous animators and technical terms.
What ways you will evaluate your progress?
I will carry out regular self reflection, and compare my new work to older work to see where I have improved and what still needs to be improved. Also, talking about my work with other students and tutors and looking at other people's work will allow me to give and receive constructive criticism.
